May 25, 2023, presented by the Africa Day Initiative

The Organization of African Unity (OAU), the predecessor of the African Union was founded on May 25, 1963. As such, Africa Day Initiative (ADI) seeks to designate May 25 as African People’s Day. The 60th anniversary of the founding of the OAU/AU will be a celebration for all Africans and friends of Africa around the globe. And on May 25, 2023, the diplomatic hub of Africa, Addis Ababa, will serve as the main venue for honoring this momentous occasion.

To communicate its intentions, ADI has held media briefings and participated in a panel discussion with stakeholders.

AfCFTA:Reaping the benefits of the world’s most youth and women-friendly trade agreement

The flagship project of Agenda 2063, AfCFTA if effectively implemented, has a huge potential to harness the power of women and youth to realize its true potential. As Africa is home for the world’s youngest population aged 15 to 35, the role of AfCFTA is immense in their future. The World Bank estimates that the AfCFTA will increase Africa’s income by $450 Billion by 2035 and increase intra-African exports by more than 81%.
