May 25, 2023 marks the sixtieth anniversary of the founding of the African Union. The Africa Day Initiative is a civic organization established to make the dream of creating a free, united, peaceful and prosperous Africa that our leaders had sixty years ago when they founded African Unity a reality. The Africa Day Initiative is working to celebrate the coming sixtieth year of Africa Day with a grand celebration, so that Africans and other friends of Africa can celebrate this great day in Addis Ababa every year

Celebrating Africa Day is not as simple as the success of the African Union. It lays the foundation to make the journey of the African Union not only a matter for political leaders but also a public matter. It will allow African leaders to create a platform for the success of the African Union. The fact that most of the budget of the African Union is not from Africa but from neighboring countries is a major indication that we need to work on the commitment of African leaders. The Africa Day Initiative will be a platform for all Africans to contribute.
